Today Can Be “Someday” —

Making Space to Start What You’ve Been Putting Off

There’s something powerful about deciding to start—right where you are, with what you already have.

Recently, I set out to clean and reset a small space in our home. It’s an 8×8 room tucked in the back corner that’s had more identities than a travel blogger: office, craft room, hybrid zone, and (eventually) catch-all.

It had become the kind of space where things land when you’re too busy to deal with them. You know the one.

But I needed more than just a place to work—I needed a functioning, focused office that helped me serve my clients well and think clearly.

The Someday Pile

In the process of decluttering, I found piles of papers and notebooks—some with a few pages filled, most left empty. I found printed course workbooks I meant to “get to later.” I found not one, not two, but five different goal-setting guides.

Each item whispered the same word: someday.

But here’s the thing: “Someday” isn’t a date on the calendar. It’s a choice.

And with a bit of time and intention, I realized: Today can be someday.

Choosing to Begin

I started with one course. One goal workbook. One notebook.

I reached out to a friend for organizing tips and began letting go of things that no longer served this season. (Goodbye, 17-year-old scrapbooking supplies.)

And I returned to something I’d put off for far too long: writing.

Reconnecting with the Gift

On a recent call, a friend and mentor reminded me of this verse:

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.
— 1 Peter 4:10

That one stopped me in my tracks.

Writing has always been part of who I am—but in the busyness of life, it had been pushed far down my priority list. Not because I didn’t care. But because there was always something more urgent.

So I started writing again. Not with pressure. Just with presence. I pulled out those dusty notebooks and started filling them—not with perfection, but with words.

Starting Small (and Sacred)

If it’s been a while since you’ve written—or since you’ve engaged with any gift God’s given you—start small.

One practice I love is writing out Scripture by hand. There’s something different about slowing down and soaking in each word as your hand moves across the page.

Sometimes I follow that with a prayer. Other times I just reflect. Either way, it gets the words flowing again.

And eventually, the rest of the words come too—the blog post, the caption, the idea you’ve been holding onto.

What’s Been Waiting for You?

If you’ve been waiting to start something—writing, recording, launching, sharing—consider this your permission slip.

Start.

Whether it’s to serve clients more consistently, share encouragement through a blog, or simply be faithful to a nudge you’ve been feeling…

Don’t wait for perfect timing. Choose to make space today.

The world needs your voice. Not someday. Now.

Feeling the nudge to start again?
Grab a notebook, open your Bible, and give your gift some space today. If you need encouragement or direction, I’d love to hear from you.
