6 ways to get MORE from your webinar

“Copywriters: You are a magician. You type words on a keyboard…and make money appear out of think air.”

This may seem like a wild statement from A-list copywriter, Kim Krause Schwalm but it’s true!

I was talking to a friend recently about her webinar and this quote came to mind.

It’s often a big shock when business owners discover the statistics about webinars.

You do a TON OF WORK to prepare for a webinar. Setting up everything. Preparing all the slides. Promoting the webinar to your email list and on social media. Maybe even speaking about it to local audiences.

You get 30 registrations and you’re thrilled! You imagine talking to them on the webinar and you mentally prepare for it.

The big day comes. The countdown begins and then virtual doors open.

A couple of people trickle in.

At the start time, you get on and make some general announcements to give those with tech issues and other late arrivals a chance to hop on.

Then you launch into your presentation with the dozen or so attendees.

Maybe feeling a little let down.

But if you knew the stats, you’d be breathing a big sigh of relief. [Not sure about that? BigMarker reports “Only around 44% of those that register for a webinar attend any of it.” Some other stats report attendance around 30%.]

And if you even get one sale from that webinar, you’d be fortunate. When there is an average 2-4% of attendees making a purchasing decision while on the webinar, you need to fill a LOT of seats to make your sales goals.

So what do we do? How do we get more people to sign up? How do we get more people to show up? How do we get more people to hear our message so they can get the transformation we’re offering? And how do we ultimately make more sales?

  1. Get them on your email list first! Stats show that more people join a webinar from an email invite than any other way. Nurture your list with regular, valuable content that connects with them and is helpful and engaging.

  1. Design your webinar to be helpful rather than sales-focused. There’s an old adage, “No one wants to be sold to but everyone wants to buy!” When we find something we need or want to help our life or our business, do something better, we’re happy to buy it. According to BrightTALK, 67% of professionals want, “Tips, tricks, and best practices,” so that may be a good idea for the sub-head of your webinar. And then make sure to deliver actionable steps on the webinar.

  1. Use a specific landing page for webinar registrations. Sometimes businesses just have a registration linked on their website or through their webinar platform. But the MOST conversions happen when there’s a specific landing page for the webinar.

  1. Use personalized, reminder emails. Most webinar platforms are set up to send out at least one automated reminder email which is good. But the BEST results are from sending out a series of personalized emails detailing the benefits attendees will get from showing up and reminding people (several times!) to actually SHOW UP! Because we’re all busy. Even when we want to come to something, it’s easy to get distracted and miss the very thing we were planning on doing. When you send out that one final email that says, “We’re going live NOW” to registered attendees, it motivates those who are doing “one more thing” to finish up and hop on the webinar. Plus, when you have to search for the link, you’re less likely to join.

  1. Send those follow-up emails! Invite people to watch the replay, if there is one available. Or remind them to stay engaged on your list and let them know about some of the great comments those who attended the webinar made. Encourage them to attend the next webinar.

  1. Track your data. In one of the programs I was part of, the business owner and coach said that it wasn’t unusual for people to go through several launches with her before they chose to invest in her program. It was helpful for her to track the data so she knew some people jumped right in (typically along with a friend) but most people had watched her for at least a year or two before joining.
